Venue project expansion to finish by month鈥檚 end
THE city’s Housing and Urban-Rural Development Commission says the expansion and reconstruction of the second China International Import Expo venue will finish by the end of this month.
The expo will have 60,000 square meters more exhibition area than last year’s edition, as more companies and organizations from all over the world are keen to participate in the event.
The commission said over 10,000 people have been working round the clock on the project at the National Exhibition and Convention Center. Crews used 42,900 tons of steels, exceeding the amount used on the Yangpu, Xupu and Nanpu bridges combined, to create an extra floor inside the venue.
Construction of the extra story has already been completed, with workers now installing wiring.
The speed of the project is largely due to the improvement and simplification of construction application procedures. The commission cut many older procedures and actively provided consultant services. In the past, projects of such magnitude would have required more than two years to finish. Now they can take less than six months.
The commission said it plans to promote the new application process to more projects.
