Wanted: Cool name for center

SHANGHAI is seeking a nickname for the newly built Oriental Sports Center in the Pudong New Area to make it more popular ahead of the upcoming world swimming championships in July, the city's sports authority said yesterday.

The Shanghai Sports Bureau said they wanted the nickname of the host venue of the 14th FINA World Championships to be as popular as the Bird's Nest and the Water Cube facilities that were christened ahead of the Beijing Olympics.

"The Water Cube was well known during the Beijing Olympics and we hope Shanghai can also have a great name for this venue before the world championships take place," said Zhao Wen, one of the city's vice mayors.

Residents can submit ideas through media outlets. The new name should be simple and easy to remember, according to the bureau.

Meanwhile, official posters and the theme song, "Dream, On the Oriental Sea," were unveiled yesterday to mark the 100-day countdown to the event.
