WeChat account shut due to risk
A PUBLIC WeChat account called Shanghai Traffic Violation Inquiry, which said it provided users with information on any traffic violations they might have, was suspended yesterday after police said it was unauthorized and might cause security problems for its users.
WeChat is a free voice and text messaging mobile phone application developed by Tencent.
The account pledged to send the violation information to users who provided their license plate number and engine number through their smartphones. Police said on Weibo yesterday that "the account was not opened by any of the city's public security departments" and it might risk users' personal information.
Police said the official www.shjtaq.com website can be used to check traffic violations.
