We're tired, say office workers
FEELING tired is the top complaint of local office workers, followed by worries over their jobs and emotional problems, according to an online survey.
Covering 405 employees aged between 25 and 40 in Shanghai earning over 5,000 yuan (US$731) a month, the survey is the first in the city to study office workers' lives and barriers to their satisfaction, said the organizers, consultant Nielsen Company (Shanghai) Ltd and the local branch of Cerebos, producer of BRAND'S health products.
The survey found that male employees suffered more pressure from their jobs and family finances while emotional problems frustrated female workers more. Most correspondents said good health, energy, optimism and an understanding family were the top necessities for a happy life, while money and achievements at work ranked fifth and sixth.
Global travelers and artists were considered the people with the most enviable lives and the survey found that the best sources of happiness and satisfaction came from going to places they had never been before and staying with family or people they loved.
"Though realizing the importance of health, many people had poor dietary habits such as not eating breakfast and eating too late at night and an unhealthy lifestyle by sleeping late and not exercising," said Dr Cai Meiqin, a nutrition expert from Jiao Tong University's School of Medicine.
