Wing collision takes place between two planes at city airport

THE wings of two China Eastern Airlines passenger aircraft bumped with each other at the Hongqiao International Airport around noon today. No one was injured.

Two China Eastern Airlines passenger aircrafts had a wing collision at the Hongqiao International Airport around this noon, with none injured.

It took place when an Airbus 320 of Flight MU2154 from Shanghai to Xi’an in northwestern Shaanxi Province was backing out from the apron to take off at 12:10pm. During the backing, the tip of its left wing collided with the right wing of an Airbus 321 with Flight MU2153 that was just landing and taxing towards the bridge, the airline said.

The tips of two wings cut across each other and were apparently damaged, according to pictures posted by a passenger onboard one of the planes.

A passenger on the MU2154 surnamed Fu said he felt the aircraft jumped a bit and felt like it has bumped into something.

The aircraft of Flight MU2153 from Xi’an to Hongqiao airport slightly collided with the MU2154 aircraft, the China Eastern said in a statement later. The airline has dispatched a replacement aircraft for the MU2154 flight and apologized to passengers on both planes involved.

Fu said passengers waited for about 20 minutes and crew members asked them to board another aircraft. The new aircraft with MU2154 would take off at 5pm.

The airline said the cause of the accident was still under investigation.
