Woman bus driver kept cool in attack
A FEMALE bus driver who kept her vehicle moving while under attack from a disturbed passenger has been praised for her bravery.
Zhou Weiqin, a driver of a No. 116 bus, is still in hospital following the assault on May 13. She suffered a broken rib and injuries to her back.
City police are searching for the attacker who fled, leaving a bag with drugs to treat mental health problems.
Zhou was driving in Baoshan District around noon when she reminded passengers there would be no stops on the approaching elevated road. "I continued the trip as I saw nobody was getting off," said Zhou.
However, a man suddenly approached a rage, demanding to know why the bus did not stop, and then began punching her. Zhou did not stop the bus until it was safely off the busy elevated road. Passengers thanked Zhou for keeping the bus safe.
