Woman held over fake handbags
A 27-year-old woman who allegedly sold fake Hermes handbags to a customer has been detained, Shanghai police said today.
The woman surnamed Xu was based in France and befriended a woman surnamed Lin on WeChat. Lin eventually asked Xu to buy three handbags for her and post them to Shanghai. Lin paid Xu 220,000 yuan (US$35,780) for the bags, police said.
A Hermes representative in Shanghai confirmed all three bags were fakes after Lin reported to the police.
Police said Xu confessed that she knew the bags were fakes. But in an interview with Shanghai Daily, Xu said she wasn’t sure if the bags were fakes.
Police captured Xu when they got word she was flying from France to Shanghai. Officers were waiting for her when her plane arrived in Shanghai.
Police said they are still gathering evidence in the case.
