Woman kidnaps nephew to extort money for drugs

A drug addict who kidnapped her nine-year-old nephew for ransom has been arrested, Minhang District prosecutors said today.
Jiang Ling, who failed to wean herself off drugs, brought the boy to play at her house on July 2 and later sent a text message to her sister, asking her to send 5,000 yuan to her bank account. When she refused to let the mother and son to talk by phone, her sister called the police.
Prosecutors said Jiang tied up her nephew with adhesive tapes and locked him in a room. She threatened to kill the boy if her sister dared to alert the police.
Instead of waiting for rescue, the boy wriggled free from binding tapes, climbed out of the window and into the neighbor's balcony. He was saved when the neighbor returned home and called the police.
