Woman killed unborn baby in love rival attack
A WOMAN has been charged with stabbing her lover's pregnant wife, seriously injuring her and killing the baby, prosecutors said yesterday.
The 20-year-old suspect, identified as Jiamin, faces a charge of intentional injury, said the Minhang District Prosecutors Office.
Jiamin tried to commit suicide after stabbing the other woman, Li Lin, prosecutors said.
The Anhui Province native graduated from college last year and travelled to Shanghai to look for a job.
A friend's brother-in-law, Wang Jun, who Jiamin had not met before, picked her up at the coach station and took her to a hotel where they had sex, prosecutors say.
Wang, 28, told Jiamin he was married and had a six-year-old son but promised he would divorce and marry her.
Jiamin, who returned to Anhui, believed Wang. She later returned to Shanghai from time to time to visit him, said prosecutors.
In March, she found that she was pregnant, but Wang showed little interest.
However, Jiamin lost the baby and then discovered that Wang's wife was pregnant and due to give birth soon.
Jiamin was told by Wang not to harass his family, but she went to his house on August 19 while he was not at home, said prosecutors.
Li, who knew Jiamin, invited her in and, as it was a hot day, gave her some watermelon. But as Li lay, watching TV and chatting, Jiamin, suddenly produced a knife and stabbed her in the stomach, it is alleged.
Prosecutors claim she also sat on Li and punched her stomach before the pregnant woman managed to flee.
Jiamin then allegedly stabbed herself in the stomach to avoid revenge from Li's family.
Li suffered severe injuries to her uterus, and the unborn child, who was due to be born a fortnight later, died.
