Women spot the mischief behind glass skywalk
A TRANSPARENT skywalk in a newly opened department store has the ladies fuming.
The glass skywalk, about 30 meters long and 6 meters wide, on the fourth floor of Global Harbor, a new shopping mall on Zhongshan Road N., has been a major hit with the men but women are not finding it funny.
Guys don't venture up to the fourth floor but have been clicking away at will from a floor below and posting pictures of women on their microblogs - their innerwears being the major focus of their attention.
And with the weather being what it is lately, the shutterbugs are having a field day. Understandably, the see-through skywalk has been dubbed as the "bridge of accidental exposures" by netizens.
"It is so sickening to see the peeping toms taking pictures," wrote a netizen "Sarah."
"But it is also so inconsiderate of the shopping mall to design a bridge that embarrasses female customers," she said.
Another netizen "Elsa Xu" penned: "The decorations of the shopping mall are quite impressive and the food is not bad. But girls, do not dare to go across the skywalk in skirts."
"You would better wear pants as the glass bridge may easily get you exposed. And very often customers can be seen taking pictures from below," said Xu.
But there have been other complaints as well which make it a rough opening for the people behind the mall. Many shops and restaurants were not yet open, prompting a barrage of complaints on the microblogs.
A blogger complained that a Japanese restaurant offered a 50 percent discount on Saturday but there was no sign of the store when she arrived. She said many stores were still working on their interior decor, the cell phone signal was low, traffic around the mall was too heavy and the mall smelled of strong paint.
The shopping mall operator said on its official microblog that it will make more parking spaces available this month and said all the restaurants will be open by the end of this year.
But it has stayed away from commenting on the skywalk.
