PARTY Secretary Yu Zhengsheng told the meeting that local authorities must learn from the November 15 high-rise fire in Jing'an District to improve urban management and ensure safer places to live and work in.
"It will forever be remembered by local people," Yu said. "Forgetting it means missing a major chance to correct our mistakes."
Yu said checks on problems similar to those laid bare by the fire, which killed 58 people, should be handled properly during a citywide safety inspection campaign next year.
