25,000 attend job fair for Expo workers, volunteers

SHANGHAI held a job fair for Expo workers and volunteers today, but many of the 25,000-plus job seekers did not participate in the six-month event.

Organized by Shanghai Human Resources and Social Security Bureau, the job fair was intended to help nearly 20,000 Expo workers, now unemployed, to find new jobs.

Companies, none of them making it clear they would hire only Expo workers and volunteers, did not care much whether applicants had Expo experiences. Some people went there simply because it was a job fair.

Zhou Jun, a local jobless youth, went to the fair after learning about it online, admitting he had no working experience at the Expo. He submitted copies of resume to several companies at the fair without being questioned about his Expo experience.

Greg Tobin, an IT manager with WPMI, said they came to the fair because they knew there would be qualified applicants, but he did not tell whether Expo workers and volunteers would be considered first.
