4 local teams win top prizes at industrial automation event
FOUR teams from local colleges and universities won top awards at the seventh national College Student Siemens Cup Industrial Automation Competition after the final round at Shanghai Institute of Technology last week.
Ye Liang, a senior at Donghua University, and his team outpaced more than 20 teams by demonstrating a prototype rock-climbing protection machine that won a special award for engineering innovation.
The machine, using electrical engineering and automation techniques, can coil and loosen ropes when a person is climbing on a wall. With the machine, players can climb alone without the help of another person, who usually would control the rope to keep the climber safe.
All the winners will have a chance to send their resumes to Siemens, Huawei and other companies earlier than normal as the college graduate recruitment season begins in September.
