College bedding, uniforms come into question

AN inspection on college-provided bedding and kindergarten uniforms showed about a third of them were of inferior quality, city officials said yesterday.

The Shanghai Bureau of Quality and Technical Supervision inspected 14 batches of bedding and uniforms of 12 colleges and four kindergartens.

It found that two batches of the products were prone to cause skin allergies and another two had other problems, including inferior and unqualified explanations on labels.

Officials yesterday inspected the quilts and pillows at a dormitory building of Shanghai University, finding that some products made in other provinces did not provide complete safety explanations.

Officials said they would contact suppliers and tell them to improve quality.

"We have set up files on the company's suppliers," said Zhou Zongbo, deputy director of the supervision department of the bureau. "And we'll inspect the bedding regularly."
