Fitness requirment revised for school students
SHANGHAI has revised the physical fitness requirement for students entering senior high schools to encourage teenagers to do more exercise.
The requirement unveiled today puts more emphasis on the actual result of physcial exercise, removing vague factors such as a student's attitude.
Schools are told based their assessment mainly on a student's performance in long-distance running. Routine appraisal by the school and an uniform test by the district education bureau are also given more weight in assessment to ensure fairness and prevent cheating.
The physical education exam is still worth 30 of the total 630 points in senior high school entrance examination. Routine appraisal and the uniformed test each have 15 points this year, compared with 20 points and 10 points respectively in previous years.
Shanghai made PE exam a required test for admission to senior high school in 2008.
