Hongkou schools first in city to get educational inspectors
Parents in Hongkou District now have a new way to channel complaints now that every primary, middle and high school has an educational inspector who will serve as a mediator and adviser to schools.
Hongkou’s inspectors begin work today, making it the first district to implement the new requirement of the Ministry of Education. All schools from primary to high schools, including vocational schools, must have them to help solve parents' complaints over such issues as fairness in admissions, food safety and homework pressure.
A total of 17 inspectors, who are retired teachers and principals from prestigious schools, will be assigned to 79 schools in the district. Each is responsible for up to five schools.
They will check the school at least once a month. Their names, contact information and photos will be posted at school gates to let parents know.
Among their responsibilities is to check whether the school has canceled outdoor activities on polluted days like today.
