Insurance for ayis, employers
MORE than 200 households and domestic helpers in Pudong New Area can now get insurance and receive compensation due to death, injury or property damage, a local industry authority has said.
The new insurance policy covers employers for such things as a scalded baby or a broken cell phone left in clothing during a wash, according to the Pudong New Area Housekeeping Service Industry Association.
Previously, the 30 yuan (US$4.4) insurance only covered domestic helpers up to 100,000 yuan.
The compensation limit for death, injury or property damage is 200,00 yuan for employers. The limit is now capped at 150,000 yuan for maids.
The annual insurance fee is 150 yuan. The insurance policy was developed by the Pudong New Area Housekeeping Service Industry Association and the Shanghai branch of China Pacific Insurance Co Ltd. It was designed to protect small and medium-sized ayi agencies as well as employers.
Ten agencies with more than 200 employers and ayis have purchased the insurance.
