Key industries to give 10.8% salary hikes

Local employers of six key industries are expected to offer an average salary increase of 10.8 percent, 0.3 percentage point higher than last year, according to a salary survey released this morning.

The survey, conducted by the China International Intellech Corp, said the city's rapid economy expansion and soaring living costs contributed to the continuous big salary increases.

Complete equipment manufacturing companies posted the highest salary increases of 12.4 percent on average from the last year's wages, followed by hotels at 11.3 percent, and shipping and logistics employers at 10 percent, according to the survey.

The average wage of the 40,000-employees surveyed reached 69,780 yuan in 2010, 23,028 yuan higher than the average yearly salary of Shanghai employees. And people working in the transport equipment manufacturing industry enjoyed the highest income of 91,728 yuan on average.

In addition, the survey also found the salary gap between Shanghai companies and those of neighboring cities such as Suzhou and Wuxi, has further closed.
