Not speaking out
Chinese International English Language Testing System test-takers scored lower in English speaking tests than other tests, such as listening, reading and writing, mainly due to fewer practice opportunities, IELTS officials said yesterday.
The average score of Chinese test-takers in speaking tests was 5.3 points out of a total of 9.0 points between 2010 and 2012, said Tracey Lu, National IELTS Product Manager of China. The entry requirement of most overseas schools is 6.0 points.
