Schools offer help to students from poor areas

LOCAL universities are making efforts to help students from poor areas that were recently hit by drought, flood and mudslide.

East China University of Science and Technology, for example, will provide subsidies and some necessities such as quilts and phone cards to newcomers from disaster areas. It also set aside 1,000 part-time jobs for students from underdeveloped areas to cover their expenses.

Fudan University which began to receive new students over the weekend is checking on the family background of students from disaster areas in order to provide timely help.
