Shanghai High School to open first overseas campus in Qatar

THE first overseas campus of Shanghai High School will open in September in Qatar, the city’s education commission authorities said yesterday.

Shanghai High School is still negotiating the details with the educational department in Qatar.

Shanghai High School’s move to establish a new overseas campus is a way of sharing Shanghai’s excellent educational resources with the world, city educational authorities said.

Shanghai’s basic education was shown to be top notch as local students ranked first twice in a global student assessment, the Program for International Student Assessment, in 2009 and 2012.

Shanghai High School is one of the earliest public schools to open an international department, which has set up nine bilingual courses.

Also, the first Sino-US high school in Shanghai will recruit its inaugural class of about 100 students in April. The Shanghai Qibao Dwight High School, co-established by Shanghai Qibao High School and the Dwight School in New York, will begin its first semester in September.
