Shanghai first city to meet national standard on balanced education

SHANGHAI became the first Chinese city to pass an evaluation for balanced development of compulsory education, national officials announced today.

All the 17 districts and a county in Shanghai met the national standard for balanced education at primary and middle school level.

A team organized by the Ministry of Education visited 204 local schools and results from 10,462 questionnaires.

The team found the integrated different coefficient between primary schools was between 0.23 to 0.52, which fits the national standard limit for balanced development at 0.65.

The different coefficient between middle schools was between 0.26 and 0.42, while the national limit was 0.55. More than 88 percent of the public were satisfied with the compulsory education.
