Shanghai raises minimum salary to 1,280 yuan
SHANGHAI will raise its minimum monthly wage by 14 percent to 1,280 yuan (US$195) from April, the municipal government said today.
The minimum hourly wages, meanwhile, will increase from 9 yuan to 11 yuan.
The city introduced its minimum wages back in 1993.
In January, Mayor Han Zheng promised that the minimum wages would be increased by more than 10 percent this year due to the city's soaring living costs and fast development.
After the adjustment, the city's minimum wages would top those of other provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions.
Last year, the increase for minimum monthly wages was also 160 yuan. Shanghai has raised its minimum wages every year except for 2009 due to the global financial crisis.
