Spanish-learning program launched in Shanghai

THE Spanish Consulate General in Shanghai yesterday launched a Spanish language training program in partnership with China International Intellectech Corp.

The language program run by Instituto Cervantes will not only promote Spanish among local Chinese but also the culture of Spain, said Inma Gonzalez, president of the training institute.

Students can choose five different courses, such as face-to-face learning or weekend studies, and receive a certificate after 30-60 hours of learning at the institute.

"The certificate will be issued by the Spanish government and it will help local Chinese to study or work in Spain," Gonzalez said.

An online course has also been launched.

Spanish is the third most used language in the world with about 500 million speakers in more than 20 countries, according to Gonzalez.

The Beijing-based China International Intellectech Corp is a state-owned enterprise under the direct management of the Chinese Central Government.
