Students benefit from jobs as neighborhood workers

A group of Shanghai undergraduates are applying their knowledge learned from books in their volunteer services as neighborhood workers this summer.

They have helped neighborhood officials to set up a paging system for local residents, created digital forms for the census, and used law knowledge to mediate neighborhood disputes.

Fifty students of Fudan University will conclude their month-long services at neighborhood committees in Yangpu District next week.

They said the summer jobs enabled them to improve their communication skills and gain deeper understanding of the society. The neighborhood officials also thanked the students for ideas that helped raise work efficiency.
