Students feel heat in H1N1 initiative
CITY schools held opening ceremonies in open-air playgrounds instead of halls or stadiums yesterday, the first day of the new semester, as a protective measure against the threat of H1N1 flu.
However, some students fainted on the playground in the morning sunshine during the ceremonies after spending much of the summer vacation in air-conditioned homes.
About 10 students felt uncomfortable at the flag-raising ceremony yesterday morning at a primary school in Luwan District. They felt dizzy or vomited and were sent to the school clinic for treatment.
Similar incidents were reported at other schools.
The clinic doctor of the Luwan District school found one girl's temperature 38.2 degrees Celsius, though she had a normal reading when entering the school.
Clinic doctors gave her medicine and asked her parents to collect her.
