Summer camps expanded
“LOVE Summer Care” camps for about 20,000 elementary school students got underway in the city yesterday.
The number of students as well as areas covered under the program was double than last year, its organizer, the Shanghai Youth League, said.
The league had rented 2,400 class rooms this year, which was triple than last year.
Teachers from Shanghai Linhua Education will promote fun science studies for students from Songjiang and Changning districts.
“We found that elementary school students were interested in science and technology which they are keen to explore out of curiosity,” said Wang Lijuan, founder of the institution.
Linhua’s syllabus is a new category of courses within the framework of the summer camp that provides innovation, leadership and performing arts training.
Liu Gang, vice secretary of Shanghai Youth League, said the enrichment of the contents was possible because various government organizations and local communities committed more resources to the program. “Our budget for the program this year was 1.3 million yuan (US$190,000). We were able to rent more class rooms and have contents of higher quality too,” Liu said.
The fees for the camp is 600 yuan for three weeks. It is popular among working parents who struggle to look after their children during the summer holiday.
