The Young Internationals

FROM 1978 to the end of 2007, more than 1.21 million Chinese mainland people went abroad to study, the Ministry of Education has reported.

A total of 657,200 Chinese mainland people are now studying abroad and 319,000 have returned after study.

More and more people choose to come back after overseas study these days, said An Yuxiang, deputy director of the Chinese Service Center for Scholarly Exchange under the Ministry of Education. About 33 percent of those who have returned choose to find jobs in Beijing and 30 percent in Shanghai.

Those coming to Shanghai have studied in more than 40 countries. The top six are Britain, Japan, Australia, the United States, France and Germany.
