Top US universities to open Shanghai campuses
LOCALS will be able to enjoy top international education without leaving home as the Ivy League and other foreign universities plan to open campuses in Shanghai.
The Ivy League campus will set up in Minhang District's Zizhu International Education Zone in the form of a joint institute, while New York University will set up a degree-granting school in Pudong's Lujiazui area.
Their proposals for a Shanghai campus will top this year's agenda of local education bureau which is waiting for approval from the Ministry of Education.
According to the NYU proposal, teachers and faculties will mainly come form NYU and international lecturers will also be recruited for its Shanghai school, which will use the same curriculum except for some courses required by the Ministry of Education. These Chinese courses will be taught by teachers from Each China Normal University in Shanghai.
Foreign students will be charged according to NYU's tuition standard while Chinese students will pay less. Students from poor families can also enjoy scholarship provided by NYU, according to sources at the ECNU.
NYU Shanghai school will open as early as September 2013 and enroll 3,400 undergraduate and graduate students for each academic year.
