Women have advantage over men in service jobs

SHANGHAI women hold more jobs than men in the service sector because of their advantages in communication and attention to detail, the Shanghai Women's Federation told at an international forum on women's development today.

The forum, themed "the Role of She in Transformation and Development," gathered about 300 Chinese and foreign scholars and experts to discuss women's leadership and change of role in economic, cultural and environmental fronts.

Statistic show the employment of women in the city's service industry was a 6.3 percentage higher than that of men. Education, health, banking and creative industries have opened up field for women's career development, said Zhang Lili, president of the federation.

Zhang said women can play a key role in those industries, especially when Shanghai is shifting from an economy-oriented society to a service-oriented society.

"The transformation will bring women more opportunities and challenges as well. It is time for woman to change their role and contribute more to the society," Zhang said.
