Art Center gears up for Expo entertainment

THE Shanghai Oriental Art Center will stage 30 major events from April 26 to May 16 next year in the countdown to the Shanghai Expo.

The events will include orchestral concerts, operas, plays, chamber music and folk music.

Two leading international symphony orchestras, the Staatskapelle Dresden from Europe and the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra from the United States will be performing in May.

Artists from Germany, France, the US, Italy, Ireland, Austria, India and Columbia will be involved.

There will also be Chinese productions including the traditional stage play "Shang Yang," music from Inner Mongolia and old Shanghai jazz.

To attract more to the concert hall, tickets prices for this series will be as low as 30 yuan (US$4), much cheaper than the normal concerts which cost at least 180 yuan. Tickets for students will be as low as 15 yuan.
