British film wins television festival award
THE 17th Shanghai Television Festival closed last night with a star-studded awards ceremony at the Oriental Pearl Television Tower.
The top TV film honor went to a British production about family relationships and a Chinese spy drama won in the TV series category. A total of 59 entries were vying for the Magnolia awards at the festival, which kicked off on Monday.
British film "Come Rain Come Shine," a heartwarming tale of unbreakable family bonds, received the best TV film award. The picture depicts different family values and lifestyles in different generations.
Italian film maker Maurizio Zaccaro won the best TV film director award for his drama film "Queens of Swing."
Chinese spy series "Before Dawn," directed by Liu Jiang, took the best TV series award.
Three foreign dramas - Japan's "Mother,"South Korea's "Shining Inheritance" and Thailand's "Cupid's Trap" - received the overseas TV series special award.
The best foreign animation award went to German production "The Gruffalo," while "Fairy Tales of the Brick Kingdom" garnered the best Chinese animation award.
Following the TV celebration, the 14th Shanghai International Film Festival begins tonight. More than 500 stars, including Susan Sarandon, Matt Dillon and Willem Dafoe, will attend the opening ceremony.
