Chen in comeback after sex scandal

HONG KONG singer-actor Edison Chen will stage a comeback in a star-studded charity concert next Saturday, two years after he quit showbiz following a sex photo scandal that shocked Chinese communities around the world.

The 30-year-old star has confirmed his attendance at the upcoming 2010 Shanghai East Asia All Stars Concert at the Hongkou Football Stadium, which will feature 30 singers from the Chinese mainland, Hong Kong, Japan and South Korea, reported Oriental Morning Post today.

Popular figures such as Hong Kong singer Andy Lau, Japanese group Exile and South Korea's Kim Joon-soo will perform with Chen.

With takings to be donated to the Red Cross Society of China, the concert will mark Chen's first official comeback, in an apparent attempt to rebuild his reputation.

That was badly damaged by a 2008 scandal in which photographs of Chen engaged in sex acts with various Hong Kong starlets surfaced on the Internet.

Chen made a public apology and said that he would "step away indefinitely" from the entertainment industry.
