‘China’s Got Talent’ promises more fun

MORE fun and stunning stage effects are promised for the fifth season of “China’s Got Talent,” which will be aired on the city-based Dragon TV on December 8, officials said yesterday.
In 2010, the Chinese version of the hit reality competition series debuted and was hugely popular among audiences. Dozens of untapped grassroots talents have since emerged through the show, after displaying their abilities in singing, dancing, acrobatics and other creative talents.
Director Ren Jing says “China’s Got Talent” is one of the most successful TV competitions based on a foreign format.
“The fifth season will present more fun and stunning stage effects,” she said. “Everyone has a chance to show their talent, dreams and charm on stage.”
Thousands from around the world have applied to take part, but only a few can advance to the February 23 final.
Finalists can receive contracts with entertainment agencies and perform overseas.
The jury panel includes mainland actress-turned-director Zhao Wei, mainland actor Liu Ye, Taiwanese actor and singer Alec Su and veteran Taiwanese TV producer Wang Wei-chung.
Wang, known as “the godfather of Taiwan variety,” said his criteria are simple — whether the contestant has a real talent to impress and amaze people.
“Most grassroots talents have not received professional trainings before,” he said. “What the show tries to present is not their artistic achievements, but their dreams, passion and a lot of moving stories.”
