Expats invited to experience Xuhui's charm, culture during festival

THE Xuhui District Tourism Bureau is inviting expats to experience the charm of old beautiful villas, enjoy the fun of traditional Chinese celebrations of the Mid-Autumn Festival, listen to a jazz concert and explore stories of old architectural heritage during this year's Shanghai Tourism Festival.
People can take a stroll along the 1.17-kilometer Wukang Road, visit a photo exhibition to learn about the old stories hidden behind the ancient wooden doors in Xuhui District, visit the former residence of acclaimed writer Ba Jin, savor a meal of Mediterranean or Thai food and watch "The Hollow," a representative work of Agatha Christie at the Shanghai Drama Art Center at night.
The ticket for the whole tour is 350 yuan (US$56) and the special tour will take place on October 3 to 5.
People can apply at the tourist information center on Wukang Road or call 64335000 for details.
Unlike the noisy and busy Bund, Wukang Road, flanked by phoenix trees, is a quiet spot.
Located in the picturesque former French concession, the road features a number of old beautiful villas - including Tudor-style home - and gardens.
On September 19, the day of the Mid-Autumn Festival, Guilin Park will invite visitors to watch traditional Chinese operas like Kunqu and Yueju opera, wear traditional costumes of ancient people and experience old customs of celebration. There will also be a small exhibition on items related with the festival.
A jazz concert will be staged at the JZ Club in the district from September 15 to October 6, and about 50 photos featuring some old buildings and scenic spots in the district will be displayed from September 21 to October 6 at No. 393 Wukang Road.
