Experts want Bund building preserved
EXPERTS want plans to demolish a century-old boat club house on the Bund cancelled.
The building will be knocked down to make room for the Shanghai Origin Project, Oriental Morning Post reported today.
The four-story house at No. 76 South Suzhou Road is at present being used as an office for a construction company repairing the neighboring original British consulate.
After this is completed, the company will move out and the house dismantled.
The boat club was built in 1903 and is one of the earliest sports buildings in Shanghai and China, according to Professor Chang Qing at Tongji University.
At one stage the Huangpu Swimming Club used the building.
