Festival enriches life of Chongming residents
More than 90,000 people took part in 130 cultural activities in 18 towns on the three islands of Chongming County on March 23 as part of the Shanghai Citizens Cultural Festival which will run until the end of this year.
The Chongming Culture, Radio, Film and TV Bureau held a painting show in the Chongming Art Museum. Chongming Library presented a lecture by Cai Fengming on environmental factors of Chinese traditions such as the upcoming Qingming Festival when people sweep the tombs and have an outing.
Some local cultural centers organized salons for fans of Peking Opera, Yueju Opera, Shanghai Opera and Kunju Operas. The Chongming Cultural Center put up an exhibition on intangible cultural heritages.
Shuxin Town held a handicraft workshop for local residents to learn DIY skills, while Dongping Town staged waist-drum dance, lion dance and other folk arts performances. Baozhen Community held a dance contest, its largest in scale. Xianghua Town invited peasant artists to make paintings on traditional kitchen stoves. In Xinhe Town, three generations of pipa musicians gave a concert. Miaozhen Community staged a performance by the student brass band of Chongxi Middle School, while Gangxi Town held a concert featuring a Chinese music ensemble made up of amateurs.
