Here’s where the Glamour story ends

NEXT year’s Shanghai International Literary Festival will be held at M on the Bund after the closure last week of longtime co-host venue Glamour Bar.

Tina Kanagaratnam, CEO of AsiaMedia and co-organizer of the event, told Shanghai Daily it will be held in the Crystal Room at the restaurant.

Glamour Bar, a popular haunt of local expats, closed its doors because the lease had expired, owner Michelle Garnaut told Shanghai Daily.

Its swan song was a New Year’s party on Friday night.

“(The bar) will be sorely missed,” Mara Hvistendahl, an American writer and Pulitzer Prize finalist in 2013, wrote in an e-mail to Shanghai Daily.

“It’s rare to find a bar in Shanghai where you can count on such an intellectual crowd,” she wrote.

“For expats, Glamour really raised the caliber of literary and arts events in Shanghai.”

Garnaut said she had no idea if the bar would reopen in a new location, but said she is planning to open a new lounge in the Crystal Room.
