Innovative programs to celebrate culture
CHINA’S National Cultural Heritage Day, which falls on Saturday, will be celebrated with a variety of programs including exhibitions, public lectures and academic forums to raise public awareness of cultural heritage.
Shanghai Great World, a landmark city building that reopened to public in March, will host innovative stage productions, creative bazaars, a folk arts exhibition and a cultural competition.
Running until July 9, the events will showcase the values of intangible cultural heritage. Local families are also invited to a light-hearted competition of tai chi. The traditional martial arts will be creatively combined with tea art performance and traditional folk music.
Meanwhile, today an international forum on the protection of intangible cultural heritage will be held at Shanghai Art and Design Academy.
Around 100 experts and scholars from Europe, Asia and Egypt will share their expertise and experience in the preservation and revival of intangible cultural heritage.
On Saturday, more than 100 historic relic buildings of the city will be open to public for free. A list of the buildings is available on wgj.sh.gov.cn.
