Lujiazui youth party has success in trial run
STARTING in August, Pudong's Lujiazui area will hold a carnival party for local youth every Friday evening from 5pm to 9pm in an effort to build a new landmark event for fashion and recreation.
The carnival comprises five parts including talent shows, trendy performances, a local cuisine street, a charity event and a matchmaking party to amuse the 200,000 white-collar workers after work.
About 3,000 white-collar workers attended the pilot run held at the central green park yesterday evening, surprising the organizers who expected only a few hundred. Many young workers were attracted by the buzz of so many people and the matchmaking party, which was the most popular part.
Two men who said they were IBM workers asked to join the matchmaking party but they were turn away by the organizer, who told them to apply via their company.
The organizer has invited 50 large companies and institutes, including HSBC, Baosteel and Fudan University, to send their young workers. Plans are to have the event cover 100 firms.
The event will be held between August and November this year, the organizer said.
