'Motive for the murder' to be adapted into movie
CELEBRATED writer and scriptwriter Hai Yan's novel "Motive for the Murder" will be adapted into a movie, sequel to the acclaimed film "The Dead End," it was announced today at the 20th Shanghai International Film Festival.
The film combines elements of suspense, action, romance and black humor. It will be helmed by Hong Kong film maker Wong Ming-sing, known for action comedy "Police Story" and "The Accidental Spy."
A lot of actress rose to fame through TV series and films based on the novels of Hai Yan, including Xu Jinglei, Sun Li and Yuan Li. A nationwide selection of the leading actress in the new movie was also launched today.
According to director Wong, they hope to find a talented and outgoing actress who has passion for acting.
"She should never yield to difficulty," Wong added.
Du Wenwei, producer of the film, said that Hai Yan's novels are a perfect blend of artistry and commercial elements. They are very appropriate to be put onto the big screen.
"In terms of the diversity and maturity of the film industry in China, we believe the film has a big market potential," Du said.
Budgeted at around 100 million yuan, the film will start shooting later this year. It is expected to be released in May next year. The novel will also be adapted into an online series.
