Orchestra On Its Way
The world's first light orchestra, the Mantovani Orchestra, named after its founder, will perform the Chinese song "Into a New Era" ("Zou Jin Xin Shi Dai") during the Shanghai Spring International Music Festival.
The string-heavy orchestra will also perform classics such as "Moon River" and tunes from films such as "La Vie en Rose" and "Big Country" when it plays at the Shanghai Oriental Art Center next month.
Mantovani, who died in 1980, formed the orchestra in 1933 and since then it has released 51 albums, which have sold 7 million copies.
Time: May 2-3, 7:30pm
Venue: Shanghai Oriental Art Center Concert Hall
Tickets: 180 yuan (US$26) to 880 yuan; students 90 yuan
