Part 4 of Pirates of the Caribbean to hit screen tomorrow

ROB Marshall's highly anticipated "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides," the fourth of the fantasy-adventure film series, will be screened in Chinese cinemas tomorrow at the same time as its US premiere.

Wu Hehu, deputy director of the Shanghai United Cinema Circuit, the city's largest cinema chain, said he expected this film to be the most popular Hollywood film on the mainland so far this year.

"With a large number of 'Pirate' fans in China, the film is likely to stop the slide of the local film market over the past few months," Wu said.

Both 3D and 2D versions of the film will be presented in local theaters. Some cinemas with IMAX screens will also offer an IMAX 3D version.

Since last Friday the Stellar Cinema City has sold more than 200 tickets for the special IMAX 3D premiere screening tomorrow at 12am.

"With an A-list cast, attractive story and stunning visual effects, particularly in IMAX 3D, the film is expected to draw a great many moviegoers to our cinema," said Yu Jianjiang, marketing manager of the cinema.

Officials of Yonghua Cinema said they had received a lot of calls inquiring about the film's screening schedule. Many tickets for weekend evening shows have been booked.

"My wife and I can't wait to see the movie," said Zhang Jian, a movie buff. "The film's simultaneous release in China is really good news."

Starring Johnny Depp and Penelope Cruz, the film follows Captain Jack Sparrow's new adventure of truth, betrayal, youth and demise. But this time he will face more challenges from the Blackbeard, a lady pirate and mermaid.
