Philadelphia Symphony Orchestra performs tonight
THE prestigious Philadelphia Symphony Orchestra will give a concert at Shanghai Concert Hall tonight to mark the 40th anniversary of its first tour of China.
In 1973, the orchestra became the first American orchestra to perform in China at the request of then US President Richard Nixon.
Since then it has toured China several times and received wide acclaim from Chinese music lovers.
To make the performance accessible to a wider audience, tickets for tonight's show are priced below 100 yuan (US$16.13).
The concert will be conducted by Donald Runnicles. Classic scores by Beethoven, Mendelssohn, as well as Chinese folk music "The Moon Reflected on the Er-quan Spring" will be performed.
The Shanghai City Symphony Orchestra will also be involved in the show.
