Relic sites discovered

A total of 126 sites of ancient cultural relics have been discovered in Qingpu District during the third national survey on cultural heritage, including ancient ruins, residential buildings, mail offices and docks.
"The survey is full of surprises," said Zhang Lihua, the leader of the survey team. "Among the discoveries, the most valuable one is the Fuquan Hill Ancient Relic."
Zhang said the team carried out an investigation at the start of last year of a village near Fuquan Hill in Chonggu Town.
The investigation turned out to be a stunning turning point, as the workers managed to uncover a 7.4-meter-high man-made hill.
The hill covers an area of almost 10,000 square meters and contains a tomb belonging to an ancient noble family 4,000 years ago.
Also many ancient articles such as jade and pottery have been found in the tomb, and are now preserved by the national museum.
Zhang said the team had started to look for cultural relics over the whole 680 square kilometers of the Qingpu District in July 2008.
The team is now collecting data from its investigations and will release a report listing all the cultural relics in the district by the end of the year.
