A NEWLY-RENOVATED modern art museum will open in May near the Bund with an art show by Cai Guoqiang, the chief director of fireworks for the Beijing Olympic Games.
The five-storey building in Huqiu Road has regained its original colors of bronze and gray and was designed by British architect David Chipperfield, who also renovated the top three rooms into one, enlarging the display space to 900 square meters, reported Sina.com.cn today.
Founded in 1932, it was one of China's oldest museums, the British Royal Asiatic Society.
Cai Guoqiang will debut with a show named "Cai Guoqiang: Farmer Da Vinci," presenting his arts thoughts about the interaction between humans and nature with a focus on the creativity of Chinese farmers.
Tickets are 15 yuan (US$2.30) for an adult and 10 yuan for a student.
