Show aims to uncover artists of tomorrow

"OPEN Expression," the 2009 Shanghai Young Artists Exhibition, is encouraging budding artists to submit their artworks this month.

The winning pieces will be exhibited at the Shanghai Library from October 20 to November 20.

Organized by the Liu Haisu Art Museum and Mingyuan Art Centre, the Shanghai Young Artists exhibition has been promoting young, unknown artists since 1999.

The jury members, including curators and professional artists, will select 300 works for display, including traditional ink-wash painting, photography and sculpture.

"This is one of the platforms from which young artists can embark on their career," says Zhang Jian, director at Shanghai Liu Haisu Art Museum. "We feel proud that some young artists who have emerged in our previous exhibitions have already made a niche in the art community."

The awards include a prize of 20,000 yuan (US$2,926). For more details go to www.lhs-arts.org or call 6270-1018.
