'The Gleaners' to greet Chinese fans
The Gleaners, a masterpiece of Jean-Fran?ois Millet, arrived at China Art Museum this morning for a painting exhibition to celebrate the museum's opening.
The Musée d'Orsay in Paris selected 87 oil paintings for the exhibition, "Millet, Courbet and French Naturalism: Masterpieces from Musée d'Orsay." The show will open on Friday at the first floor of the China Art Museum.
French painter Jean-Fran?ois Millet completed "The Gleaners" in 1857. It portrays three peasant women picking stray grains in a wheat field after the harvest.
The painting is famous for paying attention to the life of poor farmers and it was not well received by the French upper-class during Millet's time.
