Vienna Philharmonic brings its first women players
VIENNA Philharmonic Orchestra will bring its three female members to the city for a concert in late September.
Bulgarian born violinist Albena Danailova will lead the Philharmonic in Brahms' "Symphony No. 4," Xinmin Evening News reported today.
Female players have only been recruited by the 160-year-old orchestra in the past 10 years, the report said.
Albena Danailova was also appointed as the first female concertmaster in September 2008.
The orchestra is now playing in Japan and will arrive in Shanghai on Saturday.
The concert will be held at 7:30pm on September 27 at Shanghai Oriental Art Center.
