Air quality warning in Shanghai
SHANGHAI'S air quality today was very close to "slightly polluted" due to the haze in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River.
For the first time, the Shanghai Environmental Monitoring Center issued a warning of poor air quality which included a high PM2.5 measurement, which peaked at three times the government standard at 10am today.
According to the two PM2.5 monitoring sites which started to release real-time data last Thursday, PM2.5 particles in the air were 230 micrograms per cubic meter at 10am in Putuo District and 220 micrograms per cubic meter at 10am at Zhangjiang in the Pudong New Area.
The nationΥs new standard specifies a PM2.5 maximum of 75 micrograms per cubic meter.
